Buffalo State is bringing the popular Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market back to campus for the winter months. The Winter Farmers Market resumes Saturday, December 3.
With more than 15 local vendors and live music, this weekly community event will be open to the public each Saturday through mid-April from 9:00 a.m. to noon in Buckham Hall A Wing. The market will be closed for the holidays on December 24 and 31.
Buckham Hall is located on Rockwell Road near Grant Street. Free parking will be available on campus during market hours. Lot R-13 is recommended for convenience (campus map).
“Our Buffalo State Farmer’s Market is a great place to be on a Saturday morning," said Sue McCartney, director of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). "It brings together the neighboring community and our campus community and demonstrates our support of locally-owned businesses and the farmers of Western New York.”
The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market is a producer-only market. All goods are grown or prepared from scratch by Western New York-based vendors; no reselling is permitted. Vendors apply to sell goods at the market and are selected through a competitive process, with preference given to farms that practice organic and/or sustainable agricultural methods.
Participating merchants include Alpine Made, Angel Cakes by Evin, Barrel & Brine, Belleview Farm, Biscotti for Everybotti, Blue Table Chocolates, Carla’s Crumby Creations, Darling Bee, Fetch! Gourmet Dog Treats, First Light Farm & Creamery, Go Veggies, Kindred Kreek Alpaca Farm, LynOaken Farms, Native Offerings Farm, Plato Dale Farm, Public Espresso + Coffee, and Rooted Locally.
This year, Buffalo State health, nutrition, and dietetics students will be providing shoppers with tips and information on leading healthy lifestyles.
“Our students will educate consumers about eating healthy, delicious, farm-fresh foods and introduce meal-planning ideas to incorporate available produce and increase fruit- and vegetable-consumption,” said Carol DeNysschen, associate professor and chair of the of Health, Nutrition, and Dietetics Department. “The students are excited to work with all age groups to encourage wholesome eating.”
This collaborative project is presented the SBDC, the Research and Economic Development Office, and the Elmwood Village Association.
The market will return to its spring-summer-fall location at the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway in Buffalo’s historic Elmwood Village, on May 6, 2016.
